FREQUENTLY ASKED
Everything you need to know
Plain answers to the questions patients ask most.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first visit includes an exam, X-rays if your dentist decides you need them, and a conversation about your goals. You leave with a written plan and an estimate before any treatment begins. Plan for 60 to 90 minutes.
Do you take my dental insurance?
It depends on your plan. We file claims for dental PPO plans, and before your visit our front desk checks your benefits and tells you what your plan says it covers. How fees work lists each plan type and what we do for it.
What if I don't have insurance?
You pay the fee for your treatment, and we give you a written estimate before treatment starts. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.
Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?
No, we are not in network with Medicaid or CHIP dental plans. If you have one, we are glad to point you to offices that are.
Will it hurt?
We numb the area before we treat it, and you can ask for a break at any time by raising your hand. Some treatments leave you sore afterward, and your dentist tells you what to expect. We don't promise you won't feel anything.
How do you help patients with dental anxiety?
We offer nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, which you breathe through a small mask while you stay awake and can talk to us. Your dentist gives it, a trained team member stays with you, and we check how you are doing throughout. We don't give deeper sedation here. If your dentist thinks you need it, we refer you to a practice that does and tell you who will give it and how you will be monitored. Headphones and weighted blankets are available too.
How long do cosmetic treatments take?
It depends on the treatment and on you. In-office whitening is one visit, veneers usually take two visits a few weeks apart, and a larger smile design can take several weeks to a few months. Your dentist gives you a range once they have examined you.
How is cosmetic planning different here?
We plan cosmetic and restorative work together, because a smile that looks right also has to chew and last. A digital preview shows you the plan before we begin. It is a plan, results vary, and we go over the risks and your other options first.
Do you offer emergency dental care?
Yes. If you have severe pain, a broken tooth or a lost restoration, call us right away and we will see you the same day when we can. If you have swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, or bleeding that won't stop, call 911 or go to an emergency room.
How often should I have a checkup and X-rays?
Your dentist decides, based on your teeth, gums and history. Many adults come about every six months, some more often and some less. We take X-rays only when your dentist decides you need them.
Are cosmetic procedures covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. Plans often pay part of a crown or a filling and treat whitening and veneers as elective. We check your benefits and show you both your plan's estimate and ours.
How do I change or cancel a visit?
Call or message us as early as you can and we will find you a new time. Early notice also lets us offer the slot to another patient.
